Born in the IOW to parents with no show business history.Talks of performing as a builder so went to a building site to get ideas Richard Harris was also in the cast.Appeard in Macbeth Stratford upon Avon. Went to Moscow a did Shakespeare in WWII costume. Was in Oh What a Lovely War directed by Joan Littlewood. TV roles too numerous to mention. Most famous probably for George and Mildred . This sit com got audiences up to 20 million weekly. Revived the role of Old Mother Riley. Talks at teh end of acting today compared to the 1950's   .
