I started work as a trainee film editor at MGM Studios in 1961 at pretty much the end of what was known as the Studio System. Born into a film family, with a film composer grandfather, actress mother, Head of publicity /Managing Director of MGM Studios step father. an aunt who danced and later became Director of The Ballet Rambert. Film, Music and Cinema run through my blood and my life.
I left Metro in 1965 to go freelance as assistant editor on the Beatles film “HELP”, working at Twickenham Film Studios. I then worked as an Assistant Film editor, Music editor, Sound editor and FX editor. I have been lucky enough to gain over forty years experience working on a varied selection of movies.
My more complex work involved special effects movies like FLASH GORDON. D.A.R.Y.L. and THE KEEP, I also worked on DEATH ON THE NILE, RAGTIME, PIRATES OF PENZANCE, BRANNIGAN, WOMEN IN LOVE, JEWEL OF THE NILE, CRY FREEDOM and many more. I've been fortunate to have worked for many directors and producers during my career such as Dino De Laurentiis, Mike Hodges, Milos Foreman, Michael Anderson, Ken Russell ,Richard Attenborough, Michael Mann. I have edited for many first time writer/directors. I worked for Freemantle Media as In- house Editor / Director on the soap / drama “Family Affairs” before becoming employed by Universal Pictures and Paramount Studios, as Post Production International Sound Supervisor on their foreign versions for MISSION IMPOSSIBLE III and KING KONG, based out of Los Angeles .
I'm currently working as trustee of my grandfathers music estate, marketing, distribution, promotion and theatrical performances of his compositional works/reviews from 1918 to 1933 in Weimar Berlin, Then from 1933 - 1985 in London, composing shows and music for over 80 films.
