Jack Hollinshead was 101 when he was interviewed by John Forrest for the British Entertainment History Project.
At the time of the interview in 2016 Jack was probably the oldest surviving audio supervisor, not just in Manchester, but maybe all the BBC.
Born in 1915, he joined the BBC in 1930, and eventually did 45 years at the BBC in Manchester, which included his war service serving in the RAF, in Egypt, Aden, and the Western Desert.
Jack worked on many programmes, including Woman’s Hour and Variety Fanfare, which involved the Northern Dance Orchestra (NDO).
He saw the beginning of what was a very special relationship with music in Manchester, and was there when the Northern Variety Orchestra (NVO) was formed.
